Who can break the Brands Hatch jinx?

Next weekend the teams and drivers of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup come into action on the much-loved Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. The undulating track ranks high on most drivers' lists. Everybody wants to win here. Or not?

When the Blancpain Sprint Series raced for the first time at Brands Hatch two years ago, the meeting was billed as the great return of the big GT cars to the Kent track. It became a big success. All competitors immediately loved the track and Jeroen Bleekemolen and Hari Proczyk were very happy to take their Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini to victory in both the qualifying and main races.

Twelve months later Laurens Vanthoor and Robin Frijns did the same in their Belgian Audi Club Team WRT R8. They even added pole position to their perfect weekend.

But do you know what Brands Hatch-winners Bleekemolen-Proczyk and Vanthoor-Frijns have in common, a part from some shiny silverware in their trophy cabinets? None of those drivers won the sprint drivers title in the year they won at Brands Hatch. In fact, last year's sprint champions - Maxi Buhk and Vincent Abril - did not even race at Brands, after a crash in free practice destroyed their Bentley.

But no worries. We're sure none of the current batch of Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup drivers are so superstitious that they would let this little-known fact influence their driving come Sunday...
