BMW still leading at the eight-hour mark

After one third distance of the 2016 Total 24 Hours of Spa, the #99 Rowe Racing BMW was still leading the race, with a small advantage over the #6 Audi Sport Team Phoenix and the #1 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT R8. There was a third and lengthy safety car-intervention after the #24 Team Parker Racing Bentley hit the barriers at Combes.

While the fans were enjoying the fireworks and the immensely popular DJ concerts the Total 24 Hours of Spa went its way. After eight hours of racing it was still the #99 Rowe Racing BMW of local hero Maxime Martin, Alexander Sims and Philipp Eng that was leading the pack. It had a small advantage over a pair of Audi cars, but with different tactics used by different teams it was difficult to ascertain who had the advantage.

There was another major incident just after midnight - fortunately without harm to the driver - when Ian Loggie hit the barriers just before the Combes chicane. The #24 Team Parker Racing Bentley had to retire - only the fourth retirement of the race - and the damage to the guardrails caused another lenghty Safety Car-intervention.

In the Pro-Am Cup the #52 AF Corse Ferrari has taken the lead , but the #100 Attempto Racing Lamborghini and the #11 Kessel Racing Ferrari were not that far behind. The same goes for the Am Cup, in which the #49 Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari was still at the front, closely followed by the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari and the #51 AF Corse Ferrari.

In the Intercontinental GT Challenge it was the #6 Audi Sport Team Phoenix leading overall, with the first position in Am going to Duncan Cameron in the #52 AF Corse Ferrari.
