Alex Zanardi wins third Paralympic gold

Former Blancpain GT Series driver Alex Zanardi took a third gold medal in the Paralympics after winning the H5 time trial in Rio de Janeiro. Zanardi already won two gold medals in the London 2012 Paralympics. Since then he has celebrated his return to car racing at the wheel of a BMW Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain GT Series, setting some good performances in the Sprint Cup.

His most impressive feat came last year, when he decided to participate in the Total 24 Hours of Spa, sharing a BMW with Timo Glock and Bruno Spengler. The trio was fighting for a top-10 position, when in the final hour the car had to be retired with a suspected engine failure.

Zanardi participates in two more events in the Rio Paralympics later this week: the road race on Thursday and on Friday he will be part of the three-man Italian H2-H5 relay team.
