The final round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at the Nürburgring sees some newcomers on the entry list, together with familiar names that make a welcome return to the biggest GT championship on the motorsports planet.
Defending endurance champions Belgian Audi Club Team WRT have taken the opportunity to give three young and talented drivers the chance to get a taste of the Blancpain GT Series : Adrien Tambay from France, British rising star Ben Barnicoat and American Connor De Philippi. There is a new Audi R8 LMS at the start as well, from the Car Collection Motorsport team. At the wheel Andreas Weishaupt, 2012 FIA GT1 champion Marc Basseng and Horst Felbermayr jr., one of the stalwarts of the FIA GT championship during the first decade of this century.
In the BMW camp Stefano Comandini, who participated in the 2013 and 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series, makes his come-back at the wheel of the #15 BMW Team Italia M6. The crews of the ROWE Racing cars have been shuffled as well, with Nick Catsburg joining title contenders Alexander Sims and Philipp Eng on the #99 M6, while DTM-drivers Martin Tomczyk and Tom Blomqvist (son of rally legend Stig) join Stef Dusseldorp on the #98.
There are some new Mercedes-AMG GT3 at the Nürburgring as well. One is entered by Portuguese squad Sports & You, with at the wheel Belgians Louis-Philippe Soenen and Angelique Detavernier, making her Blancpain GT Series debut, and Argentinian Jose Manuel Balbiani. On the #68 Black Falcon Euan Hankey, Salih Yoluc and Bradley Ellis will try to do better than last year’s race at the Nürburgring, when they shared an Aston Martin Vantage. The #91 Zakspeed Mercedes is back too, this time with Sebastian Asch, Luca Ludwig (son of multiple DTM Champion Klaus) and Nikolaj Rogivue.
On the #90 AF Corse Ferrari the leader in the Blancpain GT Series Am Cup Claudio Sdanewitsch is making his Endurance Cup debut and he is (re-)joined by Belgian Stéphane Lémeret and Italian (and former World Cup ski racer) Thomas Kemenater.
Emil Frey Racing welcomes a familiar name in its ranks: Austrian Norbert Siedler switches from Ferrari to the Emil Frey Jaguar, joining Christian Klien and Jonathan Hirschi on the #114 car.
