The first free practice session for the Brands Hatch round of the Blancpain GT Series proved to be shorter than expected, when the #11 Kessel Racing Ferrari got stuck coming out of Druids Corner. It took a long time to move the car without causing too much damage. The session was restarted with 30 minutes to go, with Dries Vanthoor in the #5 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT R8 immediately clocking some fast lap times. His 1’24.357 proved to be the quickest of the first free practice session, although other drivers got relatively close. In the end Jules Szymkowiak (#85 HTP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG), quickest of the Silver Cup drivers, got up to second, some four tenths of Vanthoor’s time. In third was Monza winner Mirko Bortolotti in the #63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini, only 0.08 of a second further down the road.Fastest of the Pro-Am drivers was French youngster Jules Gounon in the #87 AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG. The second free practice sessions starts at 12.55 local time.
